Numerous articles can be found on the internet discussing the toxicity of chemical ingredients commonly found in household cleaners and their potential or proven impact on health. It is easy to avoid these toxins—and save money—by simply making your own harmless and very economical product based on time-honored staples, as people used to do not that long ago.
Here is what you need to make 1.5 quarts of multi-purpose cleaner:
- 1 U.S. quart water
- 0.5 quarts white vinegar
- 2 tablespoons soft soap (optional, for a more efficient result, if it is added
the surface must be rinsed off) - 20 to 30 drops of essential oils (such as tea tree, eucalyptus, lavender, lemon, pine, peppermint, cinnamon etc. or a combination thereof)
Preparation:
- mix the soap and essential oils in an empty jar or spray bottle
- add the white vinegar and water and shake well. Your product is ready!
Use
Spray the cleaner onto the surfaces you want to clean. Occasionally, you may need to scrub a bit harder than with a conventional product—particularly in the case of stubborn limescale—but it's worth it in terms of health, environment, and money-saving.
