Requesting Most Benevolent Outcomes — the most powerful spiritual tool?
A simple technique for making life easier, peace of mind, healing etc.

Intro: requesting most benevolent outcomes
Some years ago, I came across an article written by Tom T. Moore which suggested that requesting most benevolent outcomes (MBOs) in and for any situation was a powerful way to achieve true success in any area of human life and generally, make negotiating life's "curves" easier.
After a friend and I have tried it with numerous more or less challenging situations, I cannot recommend this simple technique most highly enough. I suggest that everyone use it who faces major and even minor challenges in life. It can give peace of mind and frequently miraculous results and indeed has been employed as a powerful "manifestation tool".
In addition to a weekly newsletter, Tom T. Moore has meanwhile published two books on the subject of requesting most benevolent outcomes (or MBOs), called "The Gentle Way: A Self-Help Guide for Those Who Believe in Angels" and "The Gentle Way II (Benevolent Outcomes: The Story Continues)".
And no, you don't even need to believe in angels, it's enough to simply realize that there is more to the world than meets the eye and that there are unseen influences which can and will have very tangible effects on our lives if we ask.
As someone commented, requesting most benevolent outcomes "worked PERFECTLY, and I had never been able to say that about any of the other modalities I had tried — law of attraction, power of positive thinking, etc.".
Tom T. Moore (whose own wife incidentally was touched by invasive breast cancer and overcame it with minimal surgery, vitamins, special drinks, listening to healing CDs as well as, naturally, requesting MBOs and receiving "Benevolent Prayers" from others) explains the theory behind requesting benevolent outcomes in the following manner. (And note that you don't have to believe these theories for MBOs to work!).
At all times, we have a benevolent invisible friend "within calling distance" (whom we can refer to as guardian angel for lack of a better word or ease of reference). This guardian angel loves us dearly and always has our best interests at heart.
Each human being also has a life plan or soul contract they laid out (with lots of consultations) before being born, a plan designed to provide us with the maximum amount of learning and experiences we could possibly have in our life (but which we have no conscious memory of during our lifetime)[1].
We also have “free choice,” however, and frequently don't keep to our plan and veer off in other less beneficial directions instead.
Our "guardian angel" is not allowed to directly intervene in our life unless we ask for its assistance[2], and requesting MBOs is doing just that. As Tom T. Moore writes,
"Benevolent Outcomes is by far the best thing you can do for yourself in this life because no other similar requests have as much power with your own Guardian Angel. Requesting Benevolent Outcomes can help to avoid great danger, and alleviate the severity of lessons your soul has chosen for knowledge and understanding."
By requesting Benevolent Outcomes you obviate certain events that would transpire had you not requested an MBO. That is why Tom T. Moore calls it "the gentle way" — it is like choosing a smoother path over a much rockier one.
Requesting Benevolent Outcomes alleviates fear and can (and typically should) result in the faith that whatever will transpire is indeed the most benevolent result. (Compare What if you don't get what you want in spite of having requested a MBO?)
Additionally, requesting most benevolent outcomes enables you to stick much more closely to your life plan or soul contract. As a demonstration of what can be accomplished with spirit, it constitutes (according to Tom Moore's guidance from his guardian angel) the FIRST major step in learning to co-create with spirit — our goal being to become “Junior Creators in Training.”[3]
Basic technique and "rules" for requesting benevolent outcomes
- Say, "I request a (or "the") most benevolent outcome for [insert whatever action, state etc., you wish help with]... Thank you" (said with emotion).
- Requesting MBOs must be for something SPECIFICALLY for YOU (asking for others is covered under "Benevolent Prayers": Asking for a Benevolent Outcome for others).
- The request must be for something positive. For example, don't say "I request a most benevolent outcome for not having an accident on my way to work today" but "I request a most benevolent outcome for a safe journey to work today".
- The request must be said out loud (or at least whispered), or written down. The reason, as Tom T Moore explains, is that we live in a physical world so a physical action is needed rather than a simple thought. Requesting an MBO is where "you begin cocreating with spirit — the first MAJOR step to becoming Junior Creators in Training".
- Be aware that specifics are honoured so be as specific or unspecific in your formulation as you wish the results to be.
- State your request, then let it go — saying it once is sufficient. Should it make you feel better, you can request repeatedly.
- If pronouncing "benevolent” is cumbersome, you may simply say MBO, your guardian angel will always precisely know what you’re requesting.
To gain confidence, begin with mundane requests
Start with simple requests, for instance, “I request a Most Benevolent Outcome for finding a parking space in front of......, thank you!”, “I request a Most Benevolent Outcome for my work today, thank you!” On a slightly more complicated note, you could even ask, “I request a Most Benevolent Outcome for receiving a clear sign that requesting MBOs works, thank you!”
When these requests work (and they infallibly seem to), you have immediate feedback to boost your confidence and develop trust in the process. Gradually begin requesting MBOs for things that have greater emotional charge or urgency for you and occasionally could take months or even years to manifest, such as requests for the PERFECT home, mate, or job.
Requesting Benevolent Outcomes for health and healing
The following formulations are sample formulations (some of which are quoted verbatim from Tom T. Moore's books). Feel free to adapt or invent your own according to your specific situation and needs while remembering the above-listed basic "rules".
- "I request a most benevolent outcome for receiving clear guidance as to the best healing path for me to follow, thank you."
- "I request a most benevolent outcome for finding the right treatment to heal me from... in the best possible way, thank you."
- "I request a most benevolent outcome for finding the right doctor (right dentist, right...) who will be the most benevolent for my needs, thank you."
- "I request a most benevolent outcome for being led to the most beneficial treatments for me, thank you".
- "I request a most benevolent outcome for this treatment (surgery etc.), thank you".
- "I request the most benevolent outcome from eating this food, thank you."
- "I request a most benevolent outcome for overcoming this nausea, pain etc., thank you".
- "I request a most benevolent outcome for my upcoming ... test, thank you" (ask for an MBO each time you have any kind of testing/screening coming up).
- "I request a most benevolent outcome to be led to the best food/diet/supplements for my body at this time, thank you".
- [Addressing your guardian angel] "I request a most benevolent outcome for you to send me loving, gentle healing energy that will be the most benevolent for me at this time, thank you".
Incidentally, requesting MBOs possibly even works with chemotherapy (not recommended by Healing Cancer Naturally, for the reasons see Why Alternatives: Conventional). Tom T. Moore quotes a woman who three years earlier had (at least apparently) recovered from ovarian cancer when she was found swollen with fluid that had ovarian cancer cells in it.
She asked for an MBO to reduce the excess fluid in her legs, feet and belly and for it to be expelled from her body. Sure enough, she began to expel the fluid in a very short time and at the time she reported her experience, had returned to almost normal (she also underwent chemotherapy again).
"Benevolent Prayers": asking for a Benevolent Outcome for others
To request MBOs for loved ones or other people in general, Tom T. Moore suggests to use a different formulation since "a different set of angels handles these requests". Examples:
- “I ask any and all beings to bring aid and comfort to ..., thank you!”
- “I ask any and all beings to assist [name] to be led to the most benevolent treatment for (him/her), thank you!”
- “I ask that any and all beings assist and aid [name] in being led to understand the true causes of [her/his disorder], thank you!"
- "I ask that any and all beings assist [name] in being led to successful treatments that will be the most beneficial and benevolent for him/her, thank you!"
- “I ask any and all beings that [name] be healed of ... if it is for her/his highest good, thank you."
- “I ask any and all beings that whatever is causing [name's] symptoms will dissipate and be gone for good."
- “I ask any and all beings to assist the doctors and nurses in the procedure [name] is undergoing, thank you!" (This can also be said for oneself.)
As you can see, you say “request” for a personal MBO request but “ask” in a Benevolent Prayer for another person.
What if you don't get what you want in spite of having requested a MBO?
According to Tom T. Moore, there are three principal reasons.
Firstly, there are some "negative" events you have pre-planned in your soul contract for your spiritual growth and learning and/or for karmic balancing purposes. While such an event will happen and is therefore in your soul’s best interest (even though it may not appear so at the ego level), its intensity or harshness will be reduced thanks to requesting MBOs.
Secondly and relatedly, you may think a certain result to be the most benevolent outcome for you while in a deeper sense, it isn't. This is again the difference between short-term (ego) and long-term (soul plan) benefits, with the latter involving a larger picture and perspective.
That is why, surprisingly at first, some people have been able to say that a cancer diagnosis was "the best thing that ever happened to them" (see On Healing Cancer: Inspirational Quotes for Cancer Patients and Other People in Search of Healing) since it allowed them to "wake up" and helped put them on the right path physically and spiritually.
So when a request for a most benevolent outcome is seemingly not working (initially), trust Tom Moore's statement derived from experience that it will lead to eventual great benefits, even if those benefits may not be obvious at first.
Since by requesting an MBO, you "commission" and allow your Guardian Angel to decide what is the most beneficial result for you, with some patience, you may experience, after some twists and turns, some amazingly positive end results after requesting benevolent outcomes.
Last but not least, an MBO must be benevolent for all other people (and other beings in general) who are affected by the request.
On visualization, affirmations, intention-setting and other mental manifestation techniques vs. requesting a most benevolent outcome
Requesting most benevolent outcomes, in addition to being extremely simple, has at least one big advantage over other techniques — it is that you hand over the decision and implementation of what is truly best for you to a higher power that has your truly best interests at heart and that sees far deeper and further than you are able to (this in contrast to your own wishes which as mentioned may not always reflect your best and highest good).
Additionally of course, by requesting MBOs you "enlist" the invaluable assistance of extremely powerful benevolent and wise beings.
Visualization and affirmations can be powerful, so can be intention-setting. Since a vast majority of many people's daily thoughts (apparently we have 50,000 of them every day) seem to have a negative bent, these could conceivably overpower or cancel out the positive affirmations and intentions we may be practising or holding.
Here is where requesting the most benevolent outcome is really the "lazy" man's dream tool — it can save us a lot of work and worry as well as mental effort since positive thinking seems not to be required at all, just simply trusting that we are indeed heard and whatever the outcome will be will indeed reflect our highest good.
There is nothing "wrong" on the other hand with using visualisation and similar mind tools for healing, quite the opposite — particularly and most certainly so if you feel guided to use these techniques (such as after having requested a most benevolent outcome for receiving clear guidance as to the best healing path for you to follow, or a similar MBO request), since they can indeed be extremely beneficial.
This site features a number of examples of how such tools can and have been successfully used to heal a person of cancer, see the links under "Related sections" further down.
Requesting a Most Benevolent Outcome from reading this article :-)
I suggest you do just that by saying, “I request a Most Benevolent Outcome from having read this article, thank you!” or a similar formula.
Update 2017: going beyond MBOs
I recently had an interesting experience. I had an expensive bike lock that had hardly been used but that simply wouldn't open in spite of many(!) MBO requests repeated over a number of months. The only "solution" left to free my attached bike would have been to cut and destroy the lock, both expensive and cumbersome.
As I was trying once more to seemingly no avail although the key easily moved in the lock (I actually feared it was broken inside so could not properly engage), it finally occurred to me to ask Jesus for help (I had started to "look into" Jesus after reading Howard Storm's book "My Descent Into Death").
I instantly was inspired to pull harder on the cap covering the lock — and the lock opened. As it turned out, it was not the metal lock proper that was rusty and hard to open — I had added plenty of oil anyway and the key as mentioned moved easily inside. It was the large cap that particular (somewhat unusual) lock is covered with on one side that had gotten rusty and was stuck to the inside lock.
I thanked Jesus for his help.
Update 2021: going beyond MBOs (II)
If you find yourself stuck on one particular issue in spite of many MBO requests, it may be wise to remember the power of the mind — since MBO requests after all are rather passive.
This means to remember and use the numerous mental and physical tools at our disposition, from affirmations to vision boards and healing music to yoga, qigong and many others. There are for instance many free pieces of music on the internet purported to help and assist in healing many issues we may face — from physical and emotional health to finances.
Update 2022: going beyond MBOs (III)
If you continue to find yourself stuck on one or several particular issue(s), "surrendering it to God" may be the answer: "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" (verse 33, King James Version)
In this respect you may find Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now" as well as Paramahansa Yogananda's books such as "Where There Is Light" of great help.

2 The one exception to this rule is when our life is in danger to end before our "planned" lifespan has been reached. This would explain the numerous reported instances of strangers appearing out of nowhere to help a person in mortal danger, only to vanish just as inexplicably after the person's successful rescue.
