Gastrointestinal (GI) tract: advice what to do

when the digestive system has been damaged by chemotherapy (or otherwise)

A vital addition to the article "On food & supplement absorption, intestinal flora, cancer and immune system: It’s not what you ingest, but what your cells actually absorb", the following is excerpted and annotated by Healing Cancer Naturally from "Tutorial For Alternative Treatments For Cancer".[1]

“Chemotherapy can destroy a person's stomach lining and the lining of their intestines. When that happens, a person's digestive tract can no longer absorb many of the nutrients in foods and supplements. Many cancer patients die of malnutrition, long before they die of cancer, because chemotherapy has destroyed the lining of their digestive system and they literally die of nutrient starvation.

‘Because of the problem of nausea and vomiting caused by cancer itself as well as many chemotherapy agents and/or radiation therapy, many cancer patients develop anorexia — the loss of appetite or desire to eat.

This situation is not good at all because it can lead to a condition known as cancer "cachexia" — a wasting syndrome characterized by weakness and a noticeable continuous loss of weight, fat, and muscle. It is estimated that roughly 40% of cancer patients actually die of malnutrition rather than their disease itself.’ www.doctormurray.com/articles/chemotherapy.htm

There are actually several reasons cancer patients die of malnutrition:

First, is that cancer cells themselves steal nutrients from healthy cells. This is an unintended testimonial for the value of foods that contain cancer-killing nutrients as part of an alternative cancer treatment program because it proves cancer-killing nutrients get into the cancer cells in a higher volume than normal cells!

Second, as mentioned above, nausea and vomiting can remove nutrition from the body and cause a person to lose their appetite for food.

Third, when a patient's digestive tract is destroyed by chemotherapy, nutrients are not absorbed into the body.

What is the solution that orthodox medicine has for these problems? Their solution is to add nutritious foods and supplements to the diets of those on chemotherapy. That may sound like a good solution, but remember that two of the three causes of malnutrition are caused by chemotherapy. A more logical solution would be to stop chemotherapy.

In any case, when the malnutrition is caused by chemotherapy destroying the digestive tract, nutrient-based treatment plans may not be as effective as plans that do not depend on the digestive tract! The "Ten Commandments" [article on the cancertutor site] is mostly a nutrient based cancer diet, and thus may be the wrong treatment program for people who have had their digestive tract destroyed by chemotherapy!

However, it is difficult to know where to draw the line. For example, for people with mild damage to their digestive tract, juicing can be a benefit. [testimonial snipped]

When a person has had their digestive system virtually destroyed, this situation may require treatment plans that are pure liquid, use an I.V., or use some technique that does not depend on the digestive tract.

For a patient whose stomach and/or intestines have been severely damaged by chemotherapy, and they cannot absorb nutrients, the good news is (but it is not very good news) that there are some alternative treatments that will work without the immunity system and without the ability of the digestive tract to absorb nutrients.

Examples of these treatments are: cesium chloride (liquid or I.V.), Hydrogen Peroxide (liquid or I.V.), HBOT, ozone therapy ("transfusion" and other plans), and others.

If a person decides that their digestive tract cannot handle nutrients, they can contact The Cure Research Foundation (a.k.a. The Cancer Cure Foundation) at cancure.org/directory.htm to find an alternative doctor (some of these doctors are M.D.s) who can administer one of the treatments that do not require the immune system or the digestive tract.

A person might also read my articles on Alkaline therapies [cancertutor.com/Cancer/Alkaline.html] and Hydrogen Peroxide [cancertutor.com/Cancer/HydrogenPeroxide.html].

All of this is another reason that combining chemotherapy with alternative treatments makes absolutely no sense for all major types of cancer.”

Notes by Healing Cancer Naturally

Particularly worthy of note as an alternative treatment for patients unable to digest for any reason is rectal feeding, an approach formerly used for instance by Dr. Johanna Budwig and Dr. Isabelle Moser. See for instance this extreme case of terminal breast cancer (plus many other health issues) who was nursed back to health via rectal feeding and detoxification with wheat grass juice implants etc.

Another approach which has returned a woman who suffered from serious intestinal trouble after radiotherapy to health is drinking kombucha. In fact another woman with ovarian cancer had been drinking kombucha throughout chemotherapy which allowed her to easily tolerate it.
