What you can do to help lab animals
Not to hurt our humble brethren is our first duty to them, but to stop there is not enough. We have a higher mission - to be of service to them wherever they require it.

“What Kind of Experiments are Conducted??
Animals are used in almost any experiment conceivable. They are forced to ingest or inhale anything from eye mascara and pen ink to detergents, pesticides and pharmaceutical products. A common acute toxicity test is the LD50 Test, where a group of animals are force-fed a substance to see how much of that substance is needed to kill half of them.
Many of the animals die from ruptured organs as a result of the force feeding process and not from the test product. In the Draize Eye Irritancy Test, a frequently performed experiment, rabbits are immobilised in stocks and have a test substance dripped or sprayed into their eyes. No pain relief is given. In psychological experiments, animals are subjected to torments like maternal deprivation, drug and alcohol addiction and brain damage.
In about 85% of [animal] experiments, no anaesthetic is used ... 33 animals die in laboratories around the world every second [the US is world leader with 1 animal per second]. In South Africa [and to my knowledge most "civilized" countries] no legal protection exists for laboratory animals.
The dog pictured had its leg deliberately shattered with a hammer to induce psychological stress. The dog received no anaesthetic nor medical treatment during or after the injury was inflicted (Source: Entering the Gates of Hell, IAAPEA).”

“...claim that the prevention and cure of cancer is to be found through vivisection. An increasing amount of medical evidence and ... doctors and scientists are saying that vivisection causes cancer. That the prevention of cancer means abolishing the products of vivisection.” Their detailed book "Animal Research Takes Lives — Humans and Animals Both Suffer" (formerly offered for free at http://www.health.org.nz/cover.html was written as a rebuttal of the booklet Animal Research Saves Lives distributed in November 1990 by the New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture (MAF).

In Conclusion
'I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.'

In my eyes animal experiments are an ongoing daily holocaust perpetrated against millions of the weakest and most defenseless in the chain of life (including "man's best friend" [ab]used in this manner), while simultaneously doing tremendous harm to human health and literally life.
After reading some or all of the many articles devoted to this subject on Healing Cancer Naturally (here is the complete list of articles on Cancer Research, Toxicity Testing & Animal Experimentation: an Unholy Union?), I trust that you will have arrived at the similar conclusion that “animal testing does not help human medicine", in fact quite the opposite seems to be true.
As you will have seen, many medical scientists have spoken out against vivisection both on strictly scientific and ethical grounds but so far haven't been truly heard. Literally, “business” - because this is what it fundamentally boils down to - continues as usual, meaning repetitive tests, useless at best and lethal in their consequences for humans at worst (to say nothing of the animals involved), are being performed on mostly unanaesthesized animals by their millions.
33 of them die worldwide every second, often or mostly after suffering atrociously, with the US assuming a saddening first place with one animal every second. All of this in order to sell drugs, cosmetics, cleaners etc. all too often fallaciously tested and released as "safe" for humans since no adverse effects could be found in animals.
Animal experimentation as oftentimes demonstrated proves little to nothing since its results cannot (or in rare instances only) be extrapolated to humans. This makes it just another unspeakable means employed by the drug and chemical companies and medical cartels etc. to make money and further their ends.
The cruelty of animal testing goes hand in hand with these industries' common disregard for human welfare no matter how much they may feign otherwise.
So generally speaking, animal tests could justifiably be called 'as useless and dangerous for humans as cruel to animals' (e.g. Thalidomide was tested safe on rats while Alexander Fleming’s antibiotic penicillin would have never been allowed for human consumption had it initially been tested on guinea pigs or hamsters, since it kills those species!).
In the words of “Howard Florey, the Nobel Prize winner credited with co-discovering and manufacturing penicillin”: “How fortunate we didn’t have these animal tests in the 1940s, for penicillin would probably never been granted a license, and possibly the whole field of antibiotics might never have been realized.”
There are far superior alternatives to animal experimentation that do not involve cruelty to animals and give much more reliable results for humans (such as tests performed on human cell cultures, compare Cancer Research Without Animals: Improved Cell Culture Methods for Anti-Cancer Drug Development).
These humane and solely reliable test methods just need to be implemented, and if a sufficiently large part of the public calls for them, they will be applied - to everyone's benefit! Please consider joining this call!"
What You Can Do About Animal Experimentation
Spread the word
by telling others about these pages and other websites indicting animal experimentation as seriously harming both humans and animals.
Become a caring consumer
Shop companies that test their products on animals “out of business” by only buying from those using ethical and more scientifically honest production methods. Use PETA’s guide to COMPANIES THAT DO/DON’T TEST ON ANIMALS. Alternatively, use the National Anti-Vivisection Society’s helpful search utility Promote Cruelty-Free Shopping.
You will find ethical and compassionate lifestyles information also at vegansociety.com/lifestyle/ and likely many other places.
Avoid taking medicinal drugs
that have been tested on animals to the greatest extent possible. You may both help yourself (including saving your own life), spare animals a torturous life and death and help the environment.
